Cha dong-yeon Korean Traditional Architecture Program, Class of 2023, Instructor : Han, Jiman
Memories of the past don't fade. A precious memory buried in cold, dark soil and enduring long years. The noble weight of these people will be beyond measure. From King Taejo in 1392 to King Sunjong in 1907, the journey begins to continue one by one the spirits deposited in this huge flow of history. Cultural properties in the historical city of Seoul will continue to be found, and Seoul will continue to grow. The conflict between these two classes is evident. Therefore, I think how to solve this architecturally is a task for the Korean architectural society. Therefore, I would like to present an architecture that will coexist in their relationship.
During the reconstruction of Gwanghwamun Square, traces of Yukjo Street in the Joseon Dynasty were discovered. Yukjo Street, the center street of Joseon, which has long been buried in the newly transformed Gwanghwamun Square and concrete, represents the conflict of "development and preservation" of the current era. While maintaining the nature of the square, which is based on the daily activities of citizens, the design is carried out so that Seoul, the capital, can become a historical space.
